The first day of AirAsias 1 million free seats giveaway has received a huge response, the airline said Thursday.
On the first day of the campaign, over 300,000 seats were sold while the website registered 300 million hits in the first 11 hours.
Regional Head of Commercial Kathleen Tan said the airline had to double its server capacity to cope the huge increase in demand.
Tan said strong numbers were partly due to AirAsias entry into new markets such as Australia, United Kingdom, India, China and the Middle East.
The airline said there are still 700,000 free seats available until Sunday, 15 November 2009 for travel 1 May to 30 October 2010.
